This past Christmas holiday, I caught the home barista bug and upgraded my coffee setup. I picked up a Breville Bambino Plus espresso machine, a MiiCoffee DF64 II single dose coffee grinder, and a bunch of questionable barista tools. I’m learning a new morning routine; instead of using an Aeropress, I’m making an Americano with what feels like a ridiculous process, from weighing beans, WDT, leveling, timing shots, and other rituals to the coffee gods. I get how this can turn into a hobby since there are tons of things to tweak, and naturally there’s no shortage of companies trying to sell you stuff.

It turns out I don’t really change too much once I’ve settled on my routine. Fortunately, I found this out before buying too many gadgets. The nice thing is that we can make more types of drinks at home – we really like affogatos every now and then. One thing’s for sure, I have neither the skill nor interest in getting better at latte art.
